Inflation Reduction Act Heat Pump Rebates

Heat Pump Rebates

On August 16, 2022, the president signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. Part of this law was created to encourage energy efficiency in homes and businesses by upgrading different appliances. One of the features of this law includes heat pump rebates for homes and businesses that upgrade or convert their current systems to heat pumps.

What Are Heat Pumps?

A heat pump is an appliance that is used to heat and cool your home. Heat pumps are more energy efficient than a furnace or AC unit and can save a home or business owner a lot of money each year when heating or cooling their property.

During summer months, a heat pump will pull warmer air out of your house and pump it outdoors. During the cooler months, it will pull warmer air from outside and pump it indoors. It is a very efficient method of temperature control and has become very popular in many states.

Heat pumps run on electricity, making them more eco-friendly than natural gas heating systems. They are also more efficient than AC systems and do not require the use of toxic coolants to cool the air being pumped into your home.

Who Qualifies For Heat Pump Rebates?

To qualify for the heat pump rebates being offered under the Inflation Reduction Act, you must meet the following guidelines:

To receive the full $8,000 rebate, your income must be 80 percent below the median income in your area. If your income is 81 to 150 percent of your area’s median income, you will qualify for 50 percent of the heat pump installation cost. If your income is above the 150 percent mark, you can still qualify for a $2,000 rebate on a heat pump installation.

These rebates can help some people essentially install a free heat pump system in their homes. Since these rebates are automatic, there will be no upfront charges to upgrade your heating and cooling system.

When Do The Inflation Reduction Act Rebates Start?

The Inflaton reduction Act heat pump rebates program will officially begin in January 2023. At that time, you can start taking advantage of these point-of-sale rebates. A point-of-sale rebate means that you do not have to wait for your discount. Your rebate will be automatically applied to your heat pump and installation. This will make it even easier for you to upgrade your home’s heating and cooling system.
