8 Unique Toilet Cleaning Methods

Out of toilet bowl cleaner? Don’t worry – we have eight unique methods that you can use instead:

Alka Selzer

Embrace the fizzy cleaning power of this popular antacid: drop two tablets in the toilet and let them fizz for 5-15 minutes. Then clean with your toilet brush and flush.

Homemade Toilet Bombs

In a bowl, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of citric acid. In a spray bottle, mix 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar. Spray the bottle mixture over the baking soda-citric acid mixture until it’s damp enough to form into balls. Form the mixture into teaspoon-sized balls and place on a cookie sheet. Then, drop 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil into the remaining bottle mixture and spray the balls with the rest of the mixture. Let dry for 4-6 hours. Toss 1-2 bombs into your toilet when it needs refreshing.

Gatorade

Pour two cups of this beloved sports drink (we like the blue-colored ones) into your toilet and let it sit for an hour. Then, simply brush it clean and flush.

Grapefruit and Salt

Instead of a toilet brush, try a grapefruit. Simply cut a fresh grapefruit in half and then sprinkle with salt. Use the grapefruit to scrub your toilet – it’ll be clean and smell great!

Homemade Cleaner

Make your own homemade toilet cleaner with water, baking soda, castile soap, and hydrogen peroxide. Using a funnel, add 1 cup water and 1/2 cup castile soap to an empty squirt bottle. Add 1/2 cup baking soda and shake well. Squirt the cleaner into the toilet and scrub. Then, spray the toilet with hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for a few minutes before flushing.

Pumice Stone

You’ve probably heard of a pumice stone for rough skin, but have you heard of a pumice stone for your toilet? There are several brands out there and they can finally get rid of that toilet ring you’ve been trying to scrub away.

Vinegar

If you’re low on cleaning supplies, vinegar is a simple way to clean your toilet – just use it like you would any other toilet cleaner.

Kool-Aid

This fun, fruity kids’ drink can be used to get rid of that stubborn toilet ring (try a citrus flavor like lemon for best results). Sprinkle a packet of dry mix around your toilet and let it sit for an hour. Then, using a brush, scrub the toilet clean.
